PINS Program

PINS (People in Need of Services) is a care coordination program that helps individuals of all ages overcome barriers to accessing mental health services.

Many people struggling with mental health challenges are unable to access care due to barriers such as system complexity, lack of providers, financial limitations-including insurance barriers, transportation issues, or family overwhelm. PINS helps bridge these gaps by coordinating services, advocating for clients, and connecting individuals to the right care.

Program Structure

PINS functions as the umbrella program for coordinated mental health support services.

Prevention

PINS focuses on helping individuals access mental health care before crisis occurs by removing barriers and coordinating services.

Services may include:

• Care coordination and system navigation
• Mental health and therapy referrals
• Psychological and psychiatric evaluations
• Medication management coordination
• Support with disability or service applications
• Family advocacy and support
• Coordination between healthcare providers, schools, and community partners

Postvention

When a suicide loss occurs, the program expands into postvention support through the LOSS Team (Local Outreach to Suicide Survivors).

LOSS Team

The LOSS Team provides immediate outreach and support to families and individuals affected by suicide loss, helping connect them to resources during a highly vulnerable time.

Two key postvention supports connected to the LOSS Team include:

NEST – a suicide loss survivors support group where individuals grieving a suicide can gather in a supportive, understanding environment with others who share similar experiences.

Bluebird Boxes – care packages delivered to families after a suicide loss that include grief resources, comfort items, and information about available support services.

These services focus on supporting survivors, reducing isolation, and lowering suicide risk following a loss.
